Shops at Mauna Lani offering free concerts

The Shops at Mauna Lani is launching a free new music series dubbed “First Fridays at The Shops.” Beginning Friday, the shopping complex will host free music performances at its outdoor stage on the first Friday evening of every month.

The series will feature a diverse array of local sounds, from contemporary Hawaiian to jazz. The April concert debut will feature a two-hour set from Kohala’s award-winning artists Nino Kaai and Kahua beginning at 6 p.m. Popular jazz cat Bill Noble will take the stage in June.

Participating center merchants will also offer shopping incentives and kamaaina specials at each First Friday event.

The First Fridays at The Shops schedule includes Friday and May 1: Nino Kaai and Kahua; June 5 and July 3: Bill Noble Jazz Band.

Lewis, Dominguez tapped by resort

Christi Lewis has been promoted to director of sales and marketing and John Dominguez has been named director of group sales at Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort and Spa.

Lewis has been tapped to lead the resort’s sales and marketing efforts. She most recently held the title of director of group sales at the resort. Prior to her relocation to the Big Island, Lewis was regional director of group sales for Starwood Hotels and Resorts Hawaii. Lewis has also held various sales, marketing, catering and convention services positions elsewhere on the Big Island, as well as within the state and at the Dana Point Resort/Marriott Laguna Cliffs in California.

Dominguez rejoins the resort as director of group sales following a stint as director of sales and marketing at the Sheraton Kauai Resort and the Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas. He was with Sheraton Keauhou Bay for more than four years and was part of the resort’s pre-opening sales team in 2004. He has been recognized for excellence by winning Starwood’s Worldwide Incentive Award.

Dominguez will assist the director of sales and marketing, focusing on securing corporate meeting and incentive bookings at the resort.


Kim appointed State Farm agent

State Farm Insurance announces the appointment of State Farm agent Cheryl Kim.

Kim’s office is located in the Kamuela Business Center in Waimea. Prior to becoming a State Farm agent, she worked at Bank of Hawaii in Honolulu for 18 years in commercial banking and as the Kailua branch manager. She is a member of the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce and previously served as a board director for the American Cancer Society, Windward branch.

Kim is a full-service agent providing a variety of State Farm insurance and financial products to meet her customers’ needs, including State Farm Bank products.


Video clips aid local farmers

A series of new video clips intended to help local growers produce and market high quality tropical fruit have been uploaded to www.hawaiifruit.net/indexvideo.html and www.youtube.com/HawaiiFruit.

The video segments feature tips on marketing and packaging, as well as growing tropical fruit. Interviews with produce wholesalers, a grocer and a chef offer insights to what growers need to know how to better market their fruit. Successful growers explain what they are doing to produce and market their fruit.

The clips were produced by Ken Love and Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers-West Hawaii, with funding from Big Island Resource Conservation and Development.
